WHEAT GRAIN COMMITTED

In September 2011, wheat grain committed for domestic use or export fell to 4.7 million tonnes, a decrease of 166 thousand tonnes from August 2011. This was also an decrease of 136 thousand tonnes compared to September 2010.

Of the total wheat grain committed, the amount contracted for export fell slightly to 3.6 million tonnes. In September 2011, only two states reported increases in export commitments with New South Wales up by 28 thousand tonnes and Victoria up by 114 thousand tonnes. As in August 2011, South Australia and Western Australia again had the highest total commitments, with 841 thousand tonnes and 1.1 million tonnes respectively in September 2011.

Compared to August 2011, wheat grain committed for domestic use decreased by 38 thousand tonnes to 1.1 million tonnes in September 2011. This compares to a total of 591 thousand tonnes in September 2010.
