MARCH KEY POINTS


FINAL DEMAND (EXCL. EXPORTS)
  • rose 0.3% in the March quarter 2013.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for building construction (+0.8%), other agriculture (+6.1%) and petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+4.2%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for pharmaceutical and medicinal product manufacturing (-4.8%).
  • rose 1.6% through the year to the March quarter 2013.


INTERMEDIATE DEMAND
  • recorded no change in the March quarter 2013.
  • rises were recorded in the prices received for oil and gas extraction (+4.9%), motor vehicle and motor vehicle part manufacturing (+2.5%) and other agriculture (+3.7%).
  • offset by falls in the prices received for printing and printing support services (-4.9%) and electrical equipment manufacturing (-3.9%).
  • rose 1.5% through the year to the March quarter 2013.


PRELIMINARY DEMAND
  • rose 0.2% in the March quarter 2013.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for oil and gas extraction (+4.9%), metal ore mining (+3.6%) and other agriculture (+4.5%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for sugar and confectionery manufacturing (-9.1%), printing and printing support services (-4.4%) and coal mining (-2.6%).
  • rose 1.5% through the year to the March quarter 2013.

In the Information Paper: Outcome of the Review of the Producer and International Trade Price Indexes, 2012 (cat. no. 6427.0.55.004) the ABS undertook to release an updated Producer and International Trade Price Indexes: Concepts, Sources and Methods (cat. no. 6429.0) publication. This will be released in late 2013.


CHANGES IN FUTURE ISSUES

As a result of the Review of the Producer and International Trade Price indexes, the ABS will discontinue a number of price indexes, effective from the September quarter 2013 release of this publication. See page 3 for details of the changes.
