EMPLOYED PERSONS BY SELECTED INDUSTRIES TREND ESTIMATES


HEALTH CARE AND SOCIAL ASSISTANCE

The trend estimate of employed persons generally rose from 893,000 in August 2001 to 1,212,700 in August 2009. The trend then fell to 1,209,300 in November 2009. It has since risen to 1,309,300 in August 2011.

RETAIL TRADE

The trend estimate of employed persons generally rose from 1,036,100 in August 2001 to 1,131,300 in May 2003. The trend then fell to 1,096,300 in February 2004 before generally rising to 1,246,300 in February 2008. The trend then fell to 1,193,900 in November 2009 before rising to 1,239,500 in February 2011. It has since fallen to 1,237,000 in August 2011.

CONSTRUCTION

The trend estimate of employed persons generally rose from 671,300 in August 2001 to 1,002,200 in November 2008. The trend then fell to 994,200 in August 2009 before rising to 1,045,500 in August 2011.

MANUFACTURING

The trend estimate of employed persons generally rose from 1,040,600 in August 2001 to 1,083,300 in November 2002. The trend then fell to 1,019,800 in November 2003 before rising to 1,060,800 in August 2004. The trend then generally fell to 1,016,600 in August 2006 before rising to 1,072,900 in February 2008. The trend has since fallen to 954,600 in August 2011.

PROFESSIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL SERVICES

The trend estimate of employed persons generally rose from 597,000 in August 2001 to 792,700 in August 2008. The trend then fell to 778,500 in May 2009. It has since generally risen to 872,000 in August 2011.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

The trend estimate of employed persons generally rose from 656,800 in August 2001 to 716,700 in February 2004 before falling to 693,300 in November 2004. The trend then generally rose to 820,800 in May 2008 before falling to 802,600 in February 2009. It then rose to 864,900 in November 2010 before falling to 859,700 in August 2011.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD SERVICES

The trend estimate of employed persons generally rose from 630,800 in August 2001 to 696,500 in May 2005. The trend then fell to 661,400 in May 2006 before generally rising to 792,900 in May 2011. The trend has since fallen to 788,800 in August 2011.

PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND SAFETY

The trend estimate of employed persons generally rose from 511,500 in August 2001 to 584,800 in February 2003. The trend then fell to 576,900 in August 2003 before generally rising to 647,000 in May 2007. The trend then fell to 632,900 in February 2008 and has since risen to 728,900 in August 2011.

TRANSPORT, POSTAL AND WAREHOUSING

The trend estimate of employed persons generally fell from 467,000 in August 2001 to 445,700 in August 2002. The trend then generally rose to 603,800 in February 2009 before falling to 574,200 in February 2010. The trend then rose to 587,000 in February 2011 and has since fallen to 583,200 in August 2011.
