INTRODUCTION AND NEWS
Welcome to another edition of Age Matters. This is the first edition of Age Matters that ABS has released since Ageing Statistics have come under the management of Family and Community Statistics Section within the Social Statistics Group. This move will help strengthen integration with statistics covering major themes relevant to the ageing community such as health and disability, living conditions and caring.
In addition to information on a large range of statistical releases relevant to ageing, this newsletter features several interesting articles. "Family contact and friendship for older Australians" by Elisabeth Davis discusses the connections older people have with family and friends through information collected from the 2006 General Social Survey (GSS). "Grandparent families" by Naomi Elliott, looks at characteristics of families where grandparents are living with grandchildren.
