WELCOME

Welcome to the 22nd edition of Age Matters.

I'm pleased to advise our readers that the Information Development Plan for improving statistics on Older Persons is progressing well, with endorsement currently being sought by a number of key external agencies.

Over the past two months, there have been several releases which are likely to be of interest to our readers, some of which have been discussed in this edition.

We'd like to highlight one particular feature article of interest; Rebasing Australia's Population Estimates using the 2006 Census of Population and Housing which was released in conjunction with Australian Demographic Statistics, Sep 2006 (cat. no. 3101.0).

Having recently returned to the Ageing Statistics Unit, I look forward to working together with the ageing policy & research community once again. I encourage you to contact my team and to discuss any of your ageing and older person statistical needs.

All the best,

Roslyn Gittins
