Gross Value of Irrigated Agricultural Production (GVIAP) refers to the gross value of agricultural commodities that are produced with the assistance of irrigation.

Recently, the ABS developed an improved methodology for calculating GVIAP. The information paper Methods of estimating the Gross Value of Irrigated Agricultural Production (cat. no. 4610.0.55.006), which was released in October 2008, described this improved methodology.

Using this methodology, a new set of experimental estimates has been created for the reference period 2000-01 to 2006-07 at a national, state and Murray-Darling Basin level. Datacubes presenting these estimates will be released with this product.

Additional datacubes, including chain volume measures at the national level and some further regional breakdown, will be released at a later date.

The ABS plans to release GVIAP estimates on an annual basis from 2007-08.
