Need for Assistance NEED FOR ASSISTANCE

People with autism needed assistance with a range of activities, with the highest needs in the area of cognitive and emotional tasks and communication (Graph 6). This is consistent with the core restrictions evident in many people with autism spectrum disorders.

Additionally, the frequency with which people with autism required this assistance was high. About one third of people with autism need assistance with self-care, mobility, communication and cognitive or emotional tasks on a daily basis (Graph 7). In most instances, assistance was required several times a day. For a description of what is included in each of these activities, please see the Glossary.
