The following microdata products are available from the Childhood Education and Care Survey, 2011:

  • Expanded Confidentialised Unit Record File (CURF) via the Remote Access Data Laboratory (RADL) and ABS Data Laboratory (ABSDL)
  • TableBuilder.

To apply for access to the Basic CURF, register and apply in MiCRO.
To apply for access to TableBuilder, register and apply in Registration Centre.

These products provide data on child care arrangements for children aged 0–12 years, early childhood education and learning for children aged 0–8 years, some aspects of families' requirements for formal care or preschool and the education, income and working arrangements of parents with children aged 0–12 years. A detailed list of data items is available on the Downloads tab.

The microdata enables users to tabulate, manipulate and analyse data. Steps to confidentialise the dataset are taken to ensure the integrity of data and maintain confidentiality of respondents. This includes removing any information that might uniquely identify an individual, reducing the level of detail for some items and collapsing some categories. Differences in data items may exist between microdata products.

Approved users can combine information about child care arrangements, children and parents to enable in-depth studies of child care issues. CEaCS files are arranged in a hierarchy, made up of the following 4 levels:
  1. Income unit
  2. Income unit care
  3. Child
  4. Child care
