TableBuilder Basic

TableBuilder Basic is a new product and replaces the 2006 product CDATA Online. TableBuilder Basic will retain the most popular features of CDATA Online, allowing users to build their own tables of data from a range of 2011 Census classifications.

Features of TableBuilder Basic include:

  • faster and more reliable than 2006 CDATA Online, with the ability to construct custom tables of Census data up to 5 million cells
  • data can be viewed and exported in a variety of graphs and maps
  • improved maps for selecting areas and displaying themes
  • custom groups (recodes) of variables or geographic areas can be created and shared (for other databases and with other users via a CSV file)
  • new download formats: PDF and KMZ of a thematic map
  • improved usability and customisation of tables
  • tables are confidentialised.

The following predefined data tables on selected topics will be available to help the user get started:
  • Cultural and Language Diversity
  • Education and Qualifications
  • Employment, Income and Unpaid Work
  • Disability, Carers and Need for Assistance
  • Children and Childcare
  • Usual Address and Internal Migration
  • Persons and Relationships
  • Persons in Private Dwellings
  • Persons in Non-Private Dwellings
  • Family Characteristics
  • Dwelling Characteristics
  • Household Income and Expenditure.

TableBuilder Basic is designed for clients with some experience using Census data and skills in constructing basic data tables. Online tutorials and fact sheets will be available through the Census website to enable users to make the most of this product.

TableBuilder Basic will be available free of charge on the ABS website via an interactive, easy to use interface. To gain access to TableBuilder Basic 2011, users will need to register via the Registration centre on the ABS website. Users will then be able to access the TableBuilder Basic 2011 shell databases, which are available now, and the 2011 Census first release data when they become available on 21 August 2012.

The 2011 Census databases for TableBuilder Basic will be released in three phases to coincide with release of the data from the 2011 Census. For the release schedules for TableBuilder Basic (and the other 2011 Census products), refer to Appendix 12: 2011 Census Products and Services Release Schedule - by Date and Appendix 13: 2011 Census Products and Services Release Schedule - by Product.

For the full list of TableBuilder Basic databases and data items, see Appendix 8: TableBuilder Basic Data Items.
