The first issue of National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Survey (cat. no. 4714.0) was released recently. It presents summary results from the 2002 Indigenous Social Survey. Topics include culture and language, family and community, health, housing, education, employment, income, financial stress, transport and mobility, and crime and justice. The publication provides a range of information at the national level, and selected state/territory level information. Comparisons are made with the non-Indigenous population where possible. The first issue of Experimental Estimates and Projections of Indigenous Australians, 1991 to 2016 (cat. no. 3238.0) is due for release in July 2004. It provides experimental estimates and projections of the Indigenous population based on the 2001 Census, for states and territories by five-year age groups and sex, and for ATSIC regions. There are separate estimates of the Torres Strait Islander population at June 2001. Estimates of the June 2001 Indigenous and non-Indigenous resident population at the Statistical Local Area level by age and sex are available electronically in datacube format.
