The Create New Variable page allows users to create new categorical or continuous variables constructed from the variables on the dataset.

To create a new categorical variable, follow the instructions below:

1. Enter a name for the new variable. The "Save New Variable" button will only become active when at least one category has been successfully created and a variable name has been entered in the "Name your new variable" field.
2. To add categories for your new variable, click "Add Category" opening the Expression Editor, which allows an expression to be constructed to define said category. This process needs to be repeated for each category. Instructions for how to use the expression editor can be found in the Drop Records help page.
   
3. Once all the required categories have been defined, click the "Save New Variable" button to save the new categorical variable. A notification will appear to indicate that you were successful in saving the new variable.

1. Enter a name for the new variable. The "Save New Variable" button will only become active when a continuous expression has been entered and a variable name has been entered in the "Name your new variable" field.
2. Click "Add Continuous Expression."
3. Create a continuous expression by inserting existing variables, constants, as well as brackets "(", ")", and binary operators "+", "-", "*", "/".
4. Click "Create Expression".
5. Click "Save New Variable". A notification will appear to indicate that you were successful in saving the new variable.

This means the combination of variables has be used that has been assessed as a high confidentiality risk. Field Exclusion Rules stop combinations of variables that cause greater confidentiality risks from being used together. They consist of a set of variables and a value k (variables are typically geography variables). An error is trigged when k Field Exclusion Rule variables are used together.
