The language standard variables are used within and outside the ABS to measure language diversity and usage in Australia. They include the variables; First Language Spoken, Language Spoken at Home, Main Language Other than English Spoken at Home, Main Language Spoken at Home, and Proficiency in Spoken English. These variables provide a means for standardising the way language data are collected and disseminated.
This release follows a minor review of the language standards.
