HOSPITAL FACILITIES
In 2010-11, there were 200 Acute and psychiatric hospitals with operating theatres, up from 193 in 2009-10. These hospitals contained a total of 1,045 operating theatres, 8 more than in 2009-10. New South Wales had 30.7% of Australia's operating theatres, while 24.0% were in Victoria, and 21.6% were in Queensland. The average number of sessions per operating theatre per week was 7.7, with the highest averages in South Australia (8.5 sessions) and Victoria (8.4 sessions). On average, 32.2 hours of theatre time per theatre per week were used across Australia, with New South Wales recording the highest average at 36 hours.
Generally the more operating theatres a state had, the more operating theatre and recovery room nurses were employed in that state, although the number of nurses per theatre varied from 7.6 in Victoria to 6.1 in New South Wales.

In 2010-11, there were 37 Acute and psychiatric hospitals in Australia which offered accident and emergency services. This was a decrease of four hospitals when compared to 2009-10, and a decrease of 10,700 (2.0%) occasions of service.
In 2010-11 there were 2.2
million occasions of service in non-admitted patients services in Acute and psychiatric private hospitals in Australia, an increase of 4.1% from 2009-10. Of these the most common services provided were Allied health services (578,000 occasions of service), Accident and emergency (516,000), and Pathology (351,000).
