SIMS is maintained by the Department of Justice, however all Safe at Home services and their staff have access to the system and can input data. Safe at Home Services are provided by the Departments of Health and Human Services, Police and Emergency Management and Justice. Hence, information is shared between services and departments. A case record is created by the electronic transfer of incident related data from the Family Violence Management System maintained by Tasmania Police. All family violence incidents and arguments attended by operational Police are recording in the FVMS system and the data is transferred to SIMS. This information is mandatory.
