SURVEY METHODOLOGY
The Australian Health Survey, Core Content - Risk Factors and Selected Health Conditions, 2011-12 is the core component of the broader 2011-12 Australian Health Survey (AHS), which includes common topics from the National Health Survey (NHS) and the National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (NNPAS). Also included in this product is the biomedical component of the AHS, the National Health Measures Survey (NHMS), which has not previously been collected in its current form.
The NHS was conducted between 6 March 2011 and 17 March 2012 in around 15,500 private dwellings selected throughout non-very remote areas of Australia. The NNPAS was conducted between 29 May 2011 and 9 June 2012 in around 9,500 private dwellings selected throughout non-very remote areas of Australia. In each selected household, general demographic information (including age, sex, marital status and country of birth) was collected on all persons, and detailed information was collected from one adult and one child. The NHS and NNPAS samples have been combined, based on common topics, which make up the Core Content from 25,080 households and 31,837 respondents aged 2 years and over, with 30,329 respondents being aged 5 years and over. Of the 30,329 respondents in the combined sample, 11,246 survey respondents participated in the NHMS and provided a blood and/or urine sample, and their biomedical results are contained in the AHS Core Content data file.
