NAME OF COLLECTION

Forms of Employment Survey

OVERVIEW

The Forms of Employment Survey (FOES) was first conducted in August 1998, then in November 2001 and again in November 2004. From November 2006 FOES has been conducted on an annual basis.

The FOES collects information about the nature of employment arrangements in the Australian workforce. It presents information about different types of employment arrangements (such as those employed on contract, or employed through a labour hire firm), the extent of part-time employment, casual employment and those with/without leave entitlements. The scope of the survey is persons aged 15 years and over who were employed in their main job (except for contributing family workers).

Data collected in the FOES are capable of being cross classified with Data Items Relevant to Migrants and Ethnicity as well as characteristics such as hours worked, industry, occupation and demographic characteristics.

The FOES is conducted as part of the Monthly Population Survey, which comprises the Labour Force Survey and, in most months, a supplementary survey topic.
