AUSTRALIAN BUREAU OF STATISTICS (ABS)

NAME OF COLLECTION

Overseas Arrivals and Departures (OAD)

OVERVIEW

Overseas arrivals and departures (OAD) statistics are compiled from information entered on incoming and outgoing passenger cards, visa and other information available to the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Statistics on OAD relate to the number of movements of travellers rather than the number of travellers (i.e. the multiple movements of individual persons during a given reference period are all counted).

OAD data are mainly used to compile statistics on Australia's population (via the net overseas migration collection which forms part of the Estimated Resident Population), balance of payments, and international tourism.

DATA DETAIL

Detailed OAD tabulations are available for category of movement of traveller cross tabulated with selected countries of residence and destination, intended length of stay, age, sex and other variables.
