NAME OF COLLECTION

Child Employment Survey

OVERVIEW

The Child Employment Survey was conducted for the first time in June 2006 as part of the Monthly Population Survey as a supplement to the monthly Labour Force Survey. The main output from this survey, Child Employment, Australia (cat. no. 6211.0) presented information about children aged 5 to 14 years who worked in the last 12 months up to June 2006.

The main aim of the survey was to find out how many children are working with a focus on occupation and school/work balance. Questions were asked of the parent or guardian to collect information on work done in the last 12 months for all children in the household aged 5 to 14 years. The survey collected details about whether children worked, when they worked, their reasons for working and their working arrangements. Data items contained within these topics are capable of being cross classified with Data Items Relevant to Migrants and Ethnicity.
