ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION

This publication presents results from the Community Engagement with Nature Conservation Survey, a topic on the Multipurpose Household Survey (MPHS) conducted throughout Australia from July 2011 to June 2012. The Community Engagement with Nature Conservation Survey collects information from individuals aged 18 years and over about their views and practices on nature conservation issues over a 12 month period prior to the date of interview. Data from this survey is used to better understand people's engagement with the environment, contact with nature, participation in nature conservation and advocacy for nature conservation.

The survey includes a number of terms which are left to the respondent's interpretation. In addition, the Community Engagement with Nature Conservation Survey asks respondents to self assess their environmental behaviours and practices. These factors should be considered when interpreting the estimates in this publication.

Tables of data estimates and their corresponding relative standard errors are available in a Data Cube (spreadsheet format) and can be accessed in the Downloads tab.

DATA COMPARABILITY

This is the first time the Community Engagement with Nature Conservation Survey has been collected in the MPHS. As a result, no data is available for direct comparison.

ROUNDING

As estimates have been rounded, discrepancies may occur between sums of the component items and totals. Published proportions are calculated prior to rounding the estimates and therefore some discrepancy may occur between these proportions and those that are calculated from the rounded estimates.
