While Tasmania is not a significant wheat producer compared to other Australian mainland states, area sown and production have increased in recent years. Wheat is grown mainly in northern areas of Tasmania.

In 2004-05, Tasmanian farmers produced 30,500 tonnes of wheat.

In 2004-05, 76% of all wheat produced in Tasmania came from the Northern Statistical Division (23,300 tonnes).
