      Mining Plant Operator

Operates equipment to excavate, load and transport coal, ore and rock either underground or in open-cut mines.

Skill Level:
The entry requirement for this occupation is an AQF Certificate II or higher qualification or at least 1 years relevant experience. Registration or licensing may be required.

Tasks Include:
  • operates surface or underground mining equipment
  • monitors the performance of equipment and adjusts controls
  • communicates with other operators to coordinate earthmoving operations
  • performs routine maintenance functions
  • undertakes development work such as opening up new shafts, drives, airvents, rises, winzes or crib rooms
  • completes log sheets detailing operations during shifts
  • operates equipment using electronic controls, sensors and monitors
