Tertiary education encompasses any institution offering post-school education. Tertiary courses are offered at a number of institutions, including those providing higher education, Technical and Further Education (Institute of TAFE Tasmania), and specific business courses.

HIGHER EDUCATION

Higher education in Tasmania is provided by:

  • the University of Tasmania - Tasmania's one university. It has campuses at Sandy Bay in Hobart, at Newnham in Launceston, and a smaller centre in the North-West Centre in Burnie. There are six academic units offering over 120 under-graduate and post-graduate programs.
  • the Australian Maritime College - provides education, training and consulting to serve the maritime sector. It also conducts research. There are two campuses, one in Launceston and the other at Beauty Point.
