In 1990, the Forests and Forest Industry Council (FFIC) was formed. The council, which includes representatives of all forestry interests, is a forum in which strategies for sustainable timber and other forest resources can be reviewed.
The Commonwealth Government's Resource Assessment Commission (RAC) inquiry into the Forest and Timber Industries in 1992 found that the forest management agencies have in place sustained yield strategies for wood production. Forestry Tasmania was created in 1994 following the commercialisation of the Forestry Commission. The new corporation was established with an independent board with a responsibility to improve commercial outcomes while delivering multiple-use management of State forests.
