TASMANIAN DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT'S SKILLS RESPONSE UNIT

The Tasmanian Department of Economic Development’s Skills Response Unit is helping business to overcome constraints to business and jobs growth. In 1998 the Tasmanian Industry Audits identified that limited access to suitably qualified and skilled labour was a constraint to business growth. As a result, the unit was established to work collaboratively with industry, unions, training providers, Industry Training and Advisory Boards and other Government agencies, particularly the Office of Post-Compulsory Education and Training, to meet Tasmanian business and industry training and skill needs.

The objectives of the Skills Response Unit are to:

  • identify skills shortages;
  • facilitate innovative solutions to business growth constraints;
  • maximise training outcomes; and
  • maximise job opportunities for Tasmanians.

More information about the Skills Response Unit can be found on the Department of Economic Development web site at http://www.development.tas.gov.au/
