Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system. Tasmania has the highest prevalence of MS per capita of any state and territory in Australia. As many as 75 people per hundred thousand have the disease in Tasmania.
The Menzies Centre for Population Health Research in Hobart is conducting research into a range of genetic and environmental factors that may contribute to the development and progression of the disease. For example, the Centre is investigating whether personal exposure to ultraviolet radiation influences the progression of MS.
