      Loom Operator

Operates looms to weave yarn into cloth, carpet or other fabrics.

Skill Level:
The entry requirement for this occupation is an AQF Certificate II or higher qualification or at least 1 years relevant experience.

Tasks Include:
  • sets up and inspects looms for broken strands
  • checks position of lengthwise yarn beams or spools
  • threads loom shuttles with cross-yarn arms
  • checks dimensions and starts looms
  • repairs breaks in yarn by tying or splicing ends
  • checks for and repairs faults in weave
  • carries out quality control procedures
  • replaces empty shuttles
  • reports mechanical and weaving faults to textile mechanics
  • maintains production records
