The age and sex breakdowns of victims of crime in Tasmania for 2002 show that 58.0% of assault victims and 59.5% of individual robbery victims were male, while 84.3% of sexual assault victims were female.

In 2002, all three Regions recorded proportions of male victims of assault similar to the Tasmanian proportion, with the Greater Hobart-Southern recording 58.6%, the Northern Region 58.1% and Mersey-Lyell 58.1%.The Mersey-Lyell Region recorded the highest proportion of individual robbery victims who were male, recording 75.0%, compared to 62.5% in the Northern Region and 54.1% in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region. The Greater Hobart-Southern Region recorded the highest proportion of sexual assault victims who were female, with 89.0%, compared to 84.3% in Mersey-Lyell and 79.7% in the Northern Region.

For all three Regions the numbers of both male and female victims of assault were highest in the 25-34 years age group. Female victims of sexual assault were most numerous in the 20-24 years age group in the Greater Hobart-Southern Region, compared to the 15-19 years age group in the Northern and Mersey-Lyell Regions.
