This group covers R&D directed towards improving the efficiency, safety and utility of ground transport.
It includes:

  • road passenger or freight transport, including taxis;
  • long or short distance bus transport, including tramways;
  • railway transport;
  • freight transport by road or rail;
  • parking services;
  • toll roads and bridges, weighbridges and other road infrastructure;
  • container terminals and punt operations;
  • rail infrastructure; and
  • road safety.
This group has ten objectives:

    880102 Rail Infrastructure and Networks
    880103 Rail Passenger Movements
    880104 Rail Safety
    880105 Road Freight
    880106 Road Infrastructure and Networks
    880107 Road Passenger Movements (excl. Public Transport)
    880108 Road Public Transport
    880109 Road Safety
    880199 Ground Transport not elsewhere classified

    Exclusions:
    a) Transportation of forest products is included in Group 8201 Forestry.
    b) Construction of road and rail infrastructure is included in Division 87 Construction.
