FARM USE OF COMPUTERS, 2001-02

An estimated 57% of Tasmanian farms had access to a computer in 2001-02. An estimated 50% of farms used a computer for business operations and 40% used the Internet for business operations. The highest computer and Internet use for business operations was recorded by farms in the Northern Region, 53% and 41% respectively.

Data on farm use of computers and the Internet for 2001-02 are not comparable with data collected previously.

FARM USE OF COMPUTERS, 1998, 1999, 2000

From March 1998 to June 2000, the proportion of farms using computers and the Internet in Tasmania increased from 36% to 57% of all farms recording computer use and from 12% to 35% of all farms recording Internet use.

In the Greater Hobart-Southern Region, computer use on farms increased from 37% to 60% and Internet use increased from 14% to 37%. In the Northern Region, computer use on farms increased from 37% to 55% and Internet use increased from 11% to 35%, and in the Mersey-Lyell Region computer use on farms increased from 34% to 55% and Internet use increased from 12% to 33%.
