First national report on hospital admissions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders released on Monday

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will release the publication Occasional Paper: Hospital Statistics, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians 1997-98 (cat. no. 4711.0) on Monday 5 June 2000.

The publication provides information on:
  • The main reasons why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were hospitalised in 1997-98
  • The main procedures performed on them in hospital, and
  • How this compared with the total Australian population.

Published statistics are available mainly at the national level for most public and private hospitals. Some State/Territory specific tables are included.
