Stories from the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey 2012-13 launched today

Today the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and the Department of Health launched a video containing key health information from the 2012-13 Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey.

Dr. Paul Jelfs from the ABS said the use of multimedia allowed the ABS to communicate health information in a more accessible way.

"Communicating statistics like these is really important to changing the way people think about their health. We hope that the video will broaden the reach of this message and support Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in maintaining healthy lifestyles."

The video collaboration has provided the opportunity to showcase statistics about selected health risk factors and long-term health conditions. It also includes public health messages to encourage people to seek support and take positive steps to improve their health and wellbeing.

The video will be disseminated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services and mainstream health clinics as a health promotion tool. It will be available on the ABS website at: www.abs.gov.au/australianhealthsurvey and on the Department of Health’s YouTube channel from today.
