Census publication gives the story on towns cities
The Australian Bureau of Statistics today released a series of publications called "Selected Characteristics for Urban Centres and Localities".
This series is based on 2001 Census counts and is newsworthy because it enables you to look at the rank order of urban centres (more than 1000 people) and localities (between 200 and 999 people) according to the following characteristics:
There is one publication for Australia and one each for the states and territories. The national publication only looks at urban centres, whereas the state/territories' versions look at relevant urban centres and localities. The national publication only was boxed at the Canberra Press Gallery today.
The summary of findings of all the publications will be available on this web site.
We have several statistical people on stand-by to assist you to interpret the material as required.
These documents will be presented in a new window.
