Census information on social & housing characterisics for WA


A new publication released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics gives a snapshot of a range of social and housing characteristics for different suburbs in the Perth/Mandurah area and postal areas across Western Australia using data from the 2001 Census.

Some of the key findings include:
  • Dalkeith and Peppermint Grove are among the suburbs with the highest median weekly household incomes.
  • Thornlie (22,689), Dianella (20,226) and Armadale (20,101) had the largest populations of all suburbs.
  • Peppermint Grove and Menora had the largest proportions of females (58.6% and 56.3%), while Naval Base and Casuarina (73.3% and 73.0%) had a greater proportion of males.
  • East Rockingham had the highest median age (60 years) and also had the highest proportion of people aged 65 years and over (37.6%).
  • Suburbs with the highest median weekly personal incomes were Tapping ($588) and Cottesloe ($585), while Dalkeith ($1,683) and Peppermint Grove ($1,582) had the highest median household incomes.
