ABS publishing contract awarded to Pirie
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has awarded a contract to Pirie Printers Holdings Pty Ltd for printing and physical distribution services for at least the next three years. The contract covers some 300 ABS publication titles and 1,000 releases each year, as well as services such as photocopying and form printing.
The contract, worth at least $2 million a year, was awarded after a competitive tender process. It also makes provision for ABS and Pirie to develop their relationship further in the future in areas such as subscription management and electronic dissemination.
The head of ABS's Information Services Division, Mr Jonathan Palmer, said the contract will improve costs and deliver a better service to ABS customers.
"ABS is delighted to conclude tender negotiations in such a satisfactory manner. As one of the biggest publishers in Australia, the ABS has very high standards and we are always looking for ways to improve," Mr Palmer said. "The tender process has been exhaustive and we are grateful for the interest shown by other capable organisations."
Mr Richard Gibson, Managing Director Pirie Printers Holdings Pty Limited, commented: "Pirie is looking forward to continuing its long association with the ABS. We are pleased that the time invested in developing new and innovative production and customer service systems for ABS has yielded such a significant result.
"I am confident that our success can be attributed in no small way to the total dedication and effort of our bid team, led by General Manager Business Development Alastair Smith, and the significant contribution of our major sub contract partner Australia Post," Mr Gibson said.
Pirie Printers Holdings has traded continuously in Canberra since 1972 and has grown into one of the region's largest employers and exporters.
A colour photograph in both electronic and print form is available for the media showing Mr Palmer (ABS) and Mr Gibson (Pirie) at the contract signing.
