DESCRIPTION

The Survey of Employment and Unemployment Patterns (SEUP) aimed to provide information on the dynamics of the labour market and to assist in the assessment of labour market assistance initiatives. This was achieved using a longitudinal survey where information was collected from the same group of individuals over a period of three years.

The results of the survey helped inform public debate on the dynamics of the labour market and jobseekers' labour market experiences and outcomes.

Scope

Persons aged 15-59 years resident in private dwellings. Within this broad population there were three subgroups:

  • jobseekers - persons who were unemployed, underemployed or marginally attached to the labour force;
  • a population reference group - a random sample of the population aged 15-59. This group was included so that the labour market experience of jobseekers could be assessed in the context of the general population; and
  • labour market program participants - persons who had commenced a subsidised employment placement and/or commenced a labour market training program between July 1994 and February 1995.
