DECEMBER KEY POINTS

SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during December 2018 (780,300 movements) increased 0.1% when compared with November 2018 (779,900 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.1% in both October 2018 and November 2018. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 3.3% higher than in December 2017.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During December 2018, short-term visitor arrivals (782,700 movements) increased 0.6% when compared with November 2018 (777,900 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 1.1% for October 2018 and a monthly decrease of 0.1% for November 2018.
  • Original estimates: There were 1,057,900 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in December 2018.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident returns during December 2018 (944,600 movements) increased 0.5% when compared with November 2018 (940,300 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.4% for both October 2018 and November 2018. The current trend estimate for returns is 6.4% higher than in December 2017.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During December 2018, short-term resident returns (948,700 movements) increased 1.2% when compared with November 2018 (937,400 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 2.4% for October 2018 and a monthly decrease of 0.7% for November 2018.
  • Original estimates: There were 732,800 short-term resident returns to Australia in December 2018.
