Assets of Securitisers
At 30 September 2018, total assets of Australian securitisers were $135.1b, up $0.5b (0.3%) on 30 June 2018.
During the September quarter 2018 the rise in total assets was primarily due to an increase in other loan assets (up $0.3b, 2.1%) and non-residential mortgages (up $0.2b, 11.1%). This increase was partially offset by a decrease in residential mortgages (down $0.1b, 0.1%).
Liabilities of Securitisers
At 30 September 2018, total liabilities of Australian securitisers were $135.1b, (up $0.5b, 0.3%) on 30 June 2018. The increase in total liabilities was primarily due to an increase in long term asset backed securities issued in Australia (up $1.5b, 1.3%) and asset-backed securities issued overseas (up $0.4b, 15.3%). This was largely offset by a decrease in loans and placements (down $1.4b, 17.9%).
Asset backed securities issued overseas as a proportion of total liabilities increased to 2.2%, up 0.3 percentage points on the June quarter 2018 proportion of 1.9%.
In this issue, revisions have been made to the original series as a result of improved survey data and coverage improvements. These revisions have impacted assets and liabilities back to and including June 2018.
