Assets of Securitisers
At 31 December 2016, total assets of Australian securitisers were $119.2b, up $0.6b (0.5%) on 30 September 2016.
During the December quarter 2016, the increase in total assets was primarily due to an increase in cash and deposits (up $0.2b, 5.9%), and residential mortgage assets (up $0.2b, 0.2%).
Liabilities of Securitisers
At 31 December 2016, total liabilities of Australian securitisers were $119.2b, up $0.6b (0.5%) on 30 September 2016. The increase in total liabilities was due to an increase in short term asset backed securities issued in Australia, (up $2.3b, 103.9%) and asset backed securities issued offshore (up $0.4b, 9.4%). This was partially offset by a decrease in long term asset backed debt securities issued in Australia (down $1.6b, 1.6%) and loans and placements (down $0.4b, 3.9%).
CHANGE IN LEVEL OF ASSET BACKED SECURITIES, from previous quarter
At 31 December 2016, asset backed securities issued overseas as a proportion of total liabilities increased to 4.1%, up 0.3% on the September quarter 2016 proportion of 3.8%. Asset backed securities issued in Australia as a proportion of total liabilities increased to 87.3%, up 0.1% on the September quarter 2016 proportion of 87.2%.
