ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION
This publication contains statistics of taxation revenue collected by all levels of government in Australia for the periods 1998-99 to 2007-08. The taxation revenue statistics presented are for the general government sector and include taxes received from public corporations (i.e. government owned/controlled corporations). The amount of taxes received from these corporations is shown in the relevant tables.
These data are available on the ABS web site as time series tables.
This publication also contains an Appendix on adjusted measures of government revenue, which provides analytical measures designed to facilitate an understanding of the level of government at which revenue is used rather than simply collected.
CHANGES IN THE PRESENTATION OF DATA IN THIS PUBLICATION
Previously, Taxation Revenue, Australia was presented as a PDF publication with Web based Main Features and Explanatory Notes.
For the 2007-08 release, ABS has discontinued the PDF version of the publication and now presents the publication in Web format only.
To ensure that data presented in the Taxation Revenue, Australia PDF is still available the following changes have been made:
- Tables 1 and 2, Taxation, All levels of Government and by Level of Government have been moved to the Summary of Findings; and
- Tables 3 to 15 from the PDF, Taxation, State and Local Government combined and Taxation, State Governments are now presented as separate time series spreadsheets for each jurisdiction.
In this publication, the term 'state' includes the two territories. Therefore, 'state' refers to 'state and territories' and 'state and local' refers to 'state, territories and local'.
