SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, the September 2011 merchandise imports were $20,022m, a decrease of $506m (2%) on the August 2011 merchandise imports of $20,528m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms fell $423m (2%) between August and September 2011. In seasonally adjusted terms goods debits fell $354m (2%) from $20,104m in August 2011 to $19,750m in September 2011. Intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $462m (5%). This decrease was driven by the fuels and lubricants component down $374m (12%) following a rise of $298m (10%) between July and August 2011 and the processed industrial supplies n.e.s. component down $356m (15%) between August and September 2011. Consumption goods fell $155m (3%). Capital goods rose $226m (5%) and non-monetary gold rose $39m (7%).


REVISIONS
  • Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
