JUNE KEY POINTS


ESTABLISHED HOUSE PRICES

Quarterly Changes
  • Preliminary estimates show the price index for established houses for the weighted average of the eight capital cities increased 3.1% in the June quarter 2010.
  • The main contributors to the weighted average of the eight capital cities were Sydney (+4.9%) and Melbourne (+3.6%). There were also positive contributions from Adelaide (+3.2%), Darwin (+2.8%), Canberra (+2.1%), Perth (+0.4%), Brisbane (+0.3%) and Hobart (+0.1%).


ANNUAL CHANGES (JUNE QUARTER 2009 TO JUNE QUARTER 2010)
  • Preliminary estimates show that the price index for established houses for the weighted average of the eight capital cities increased 18.4% in the year to June quarter 2010.
  • Annually, house prices rose in Melbourne (+24.3%), Sydney (+21.4%), Canberra (+19.6%), Darwin (+14.6%), Perth (+13.0%), Adelaide (+11.6%), Hobart (+10.8%) and Brisbane (+8.5%).

Estimates for the two most recent quarters of the HPI series are preliminary and subject to revision (see paragraphs 13 to 17 of the Explanatory notes).
