ABOUT THIS ISSUE

This publication updates the preliminary estimates released in Construction Work Done, Australia(cat. no. 8755.0) on 29 May 2013. The data in this publication are based on a response rate of approximately 90% of the value of building work done during the quarter. The data are subject to revision when returns from the following quarter are processed. Final data for the March quarter 2013 will be released in the next release of this publication, Building Activity, Australia (cat. no. 8752.0) on 16 October 2013.

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

A readily printable (PDF) publication is no longer released for this issue. Headline data items are presented in HTML format. Data series in the Time Series Spreadsheets are maintained and produced to the same timetable currently in place for this release.

SIGNIFICANT REVISIONS THIS ISSUE

As a result of a major audit undertaken for the Building Approvals collection (see Building Approvals, Australia, January 2013 (cat. no. 8731.0) for more information), this release incorporates revisions to estimates from the December quarter 2000 through to the December quarter 2012.

Revisions to recent quarters are quite significant. Compared to the estimate published in Building Activity, Australia, December quarter 2012 (cat. no. 8752.0) released on 17 April 2013:
    • the total value of work done in Australia during December quarter 2012 has been revised upwards by $582.1m or 2.8%.
    • the total value of work commenced in Australia during December quarter 2012 has been revised upwards by $1,790.9m or 8.8%. This was driven by revisions to non-residential commencements ($844.4m) and new other residential commencements ($621.5m).
    • the number of dwelling unit commencements in the December quarter 2012 has been revised upwards by 3326 dwellings or 8.4%.
Users of Building Activity time series data are encouraged to download any series of interest to make use of these revisions.

    DATA NOTE
