KEY POINTS


Wheat grain stored by state
  • All states, except Queensland and South Australia, recorded rises in stocks of wheat grain stored in January 2012, when compared to December 2011.
  • Western Australia stored the largest amount with 9.5 million tonnes, which was 37% of the national stocks. New South Wales was next largest with 7.0 million tonnes (27% of national stocks).

Wheat grain stored, Australia
  • Australia's bulk storage of wheat grain in January 2012 increased by 981,000 tonnes (4%) to 25.6 million tonnes from December 2011. This was 3.4 million tonnes (16%) higher than the amount stored in January 2011.

Wheat grain stored by grade
  • The improvement in the new season's wheat harvest has continued in January 2012, with a further rise in the volume of quality wheat grain.
  • Stocks of wheat grain for milling were 17.6 million tonnes which was 69% of all grain stored in January 2012.
  • Feed grade wheat grain stocks were 8.0 million tonnes (31% of all grain stored) at the end of January 2012. This was a decrease of 1.7 million tonnes from January 2011.
