FINALISATION METHOD

During 2008-09, 78% or 27,877 offences were proven guilty, while 16% (5,802) were withdrawn by the prosecution. The offence groups with the highest proportions proven guilty were illegal fishing and fraud offences (87% and 86% respectively).

The offence groups with the highest proportions of acquittals were aviation offences and migration and people smuggling (both 10%) and communications offences (8%). Over half of the 133 offences related to justice offences were withdrawn by the prosecution, followed by wildlife smuggling (50%) and migration and people smuggling offences (38%).
