The following graph shows the effect the passing of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cwlth) had on the number of divorces granted in Tasmania. Up to 1975 the number of divorces per year in Tasmania was consistently below 600. In 1976, the number of divorces jumped to 1,758 and since then the number of divorces has remained at over 1,000 a year.
