INCOME FROM ORDERS RECEIVED OVER THE INTERNET OR WEB (INTERNET INCOME)

Businesses which reported having received orders via the Internet or web in 2007-08, were asked about the proportion of goods and services income resulting from those orders.

Overall, the proportion of all businesses reporting receipt of orders via the Internet or web during 2007-08 was 24%, with income derived from these orders totalling approximately $81 billion. Businesses with 200 or more employees generated just over half of total Internet income, at $41 billion.

Transport, postal and warehousing (which includes air transport) reported one of the lowest proportions of businesses recording the receipt of orders via the Internet or web (17%). However, this industry was highest in terms of the percentage of goods and services income derived from Internet orders.
