MAIN TYPE OF BROADBAND CONNECTION USED

Businesses using broadband as their main connection type were also asked to specify the main type of broadband connection in use at 30 June 2008.

The most commonly reported broadband connection type used was Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), with 77% of broadband users identifying this as their main connection type. Cable as the main type of broadband connection was most prevalent among businesses with 200 or more persons employed, at 34%, more than double the proportion of any other employment size group.

Businesses in Wholesale trade were most likely to report DSL as the main type of broadband connection (86%). The industry with the lowest proportion of businesses with DSL as the main type of broadband connection was Construction, at 70%. This industry recorded the highest proportion of businesses with a fixed wireless broadband connection (10%).
