TREND

  • The September quarter trend estimate of the total value of building work commenced fell 0.7% from the revised June quarter estimate.
  • The value of new residential building commenced rose 0.2%. New house commencements fell 0.6% and new other residential commencements rose 1.9%. The value of commencements for alterations and additions to residential buildings rose 2.1%. The value of non-residential building fell by 2.2%.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, the estimate of the total value of building work commenced in the September quarter fell 1.5% from the revised June quarter estimate.
  • Commencements of new residential buildings rose 1.9%, to $8,561.7m. New house commencements fell 2.0%, to $5,862.2m, while new other residential building rose 11.5%, to $2,699.5m. Alterations and additions rose 3.0%, to $1,553.2m. Non-residential work commenced fell 6.7%, to $6,366.5m.
