TREND
  • The December quarter trend estimate of the total value of building work commenced rose 1.6% from the revised September quarter estimate.
  • The value of new residential building commenced rose 2.2%. New house commencements rose 2.8% and new other residential commencements rose 0.7%. The value of commencements for alterations and additions to residential buildings rose 4.3%. The value of non-residential building rose by 0.3%.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, the estimate of the total value of building work commenced in the December quarter rose 0.8% from the revised September quarter estimate.
  • Commencements of new residential buildings rose 1.6%, to $8,797.8m. New house commencements rose 6.9%, to $6,395.9m, while new other residential building fell 10.1%, to $2,401.8m. Alterations and additions rose 6.9%, to $1,662.0m. Non-residential work commenced fell 1.6%, to $6,887.0m from the revised September quarter estimate.
