The chart below shows the trend series and seasonally adjusted series to May 2017.

In current prices, the trend estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.3% in May 2017 following a rise of 0.3% in April 2017 and a rise of 0.3% in March 2017.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.6% in May 2017 following a rise of 1.0% in April 2017 and a fall of 0.1% in March 2017.

The original estimate for Australian turnover rose 2.2% in May 2017. The original estimate for chains and other larger retailers rose 0.8% in May 2017. The original estimate for smaller retailers rose 5.5% in May 2017.

TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE

The following states and territories rose in trend terms in May 2017: Victoria (0.6%), New South Wales (0.4%), South Australia (0.5%), Western Australia (0.1%), the Australian Capital Territory (0.5%), and Tasmania (0.4%). Queensland (0.0%) was relatively unchanged. The Northern Territory (-0.1%) fell in trend terms in May 2017.

The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in May 2017: New South Wales (1.3%), Victoria (1.2%), South Australia (0.8%), Western Australia (0.3%), Tasmania (1.2%), and the Australian Capital Territory (1.0%). Queensland (-1.1%), and the Northern Territory (-0.5%) fell in seasonally adjusted terms in May 2017.
